Movie: SISU

 "SISU is a Finnish word that cannot be translated. It means a white-knuckled form of courage and unimaginable determination. SISU manifests itself when all hope is lost.”

Sisu is a 2022 historical action thriller film written and directed by Jalmari Helander. Set in Finnish Lapland during World War II, the film follows a former legendary Finnish commando and gold prospector who attempts to secure his gold and defend himself from a German death squad led by a brutal SS officer. The film stars Jorma Tommila, Aksel Hennie, Jack Doolan, Mimosa Willamo and Onni Tommila.

Finland started World War II in a defensive war against the USSR after they invaded Finland in Nov 1939. Conflict between the two nations continued until 1944, when the two signed the Moscow armistice in which the Finns were required to expel German troops from its territory. The ensuing Lapland War was fought between Finland and Nazi Germany for seven months until April 1945. The Germans adopted a scorched earth policy and laid waste to the northern half of the country, destroying all roads, bridges, villages, and towns in their path. It is in this stage of the war that SISU takes place. Stage 6 Films presents a Subzero Film Entertainment production in association with Good Chaos, a Jalmari Helander film “SISU”.
