Movie Review: THE UNHOLY
Omg, after so long! I finally step foot into the cinema all thanks to Sony Pictures Entertainment Malaysia's team! Was being invited to catch this movie earlier on today.
Well, this movie The Unholy, which follows Alice, a young hearing-impaired girl who, after a supposed visitation from the Virgin Mary, is inexplicably able to hear, speak and heal the sick. As word spreads and people from near and far flock to witness her miracles, a disgraced journalist (Jeffrey Dean Morgan - one of my fav actor) hoping to revive his career visits the small New England town to investigate. When terrifying events begin to happy all around, he starts to question if these phenomena are the works of the Virgin Mary or something more sinister.
The Unholy is produced by Sam Raimi, Rob Tapers and Evan Spiliotopoulos, written for the screen and directed by Evan Spiliotopoulos, and is based upon James Herbert’s best-selling book Shrine.
“The Unholy” is a horror movie that has more drama than frightening jump scares. The story of "The Unholy" centres around an evil spirit that grow stronger as more people believe in its power. Now, why would people instil their faith in an evil spirit? Its because The Unholy spirit has a similar name with the sacred Virgin Mary.
Overall, "The Unholy" is mildly scary and has a tiresome plot that has been overused in a myriad of religious horror movies. I rate this movie, 5 out 10.
Here's the trailer for you guys to check it out!
Share with me your review once you watch it at the cinema near you! Thanks for reading! And psst, be careful who you pray too okay!
