Starbucks Malaysia Re-imagines Raya During COVID-19
With the latest COVID-19 pandemic sparking a national Movement Control Order (MCO) just a few weeks shy of the Holy Month of Ramadan, it has compelled many to rethink how we will be celebrating Raya this year. As things start to look a little different, Starbucks has reimagined Aidilfitri that will allow those apart from families and friends to stay connected through some Raya favourites, and also gifting opportunities ranging from beverages to merchandise.
For the closed Ramadan bazaars, families can take comfort in the new Caramel Sweet Corn Frappuccino, a beverage that is inspired directly from ‘Air Jagung’ that were made popular in these night markets. Beautifully crafted with premium sweet corn sauce, luscious milk and a generous drizzle of caramel sauce topped with green tea whipped cream, this heartwarming and nostalgic beverage will really teleport oneself as if they were really in the warm, bustling market itself.

Homecoming during Hari Raya Aidilfitri will look a little different this year. To make everyone’s celebration more festive and vibrant under the circumstances and to connect families across borders with a little festive treat, Starbucks has introduced the delectable Chewy Kurma Cookies, a combination of rolled oats, dates, and hints of cinnamon. The cookies are sold individually or together in a compact box, making them easy to deliver to close friends and families during the season.

To make the celebrations more special this year, customers can also enjoy the Starbucks Iftar Together Combo set, where you can get two Grande-sized handcrafted beverages and one slice of cake for only RM29.90. The Iftar Combo Set is available at all stores from 12 May onwards.

Starbucks has also launched its beautifully designed Raya Cups and matching Cup Sleeves for this year, created locally by the Starbucks team in Malaysia. It combines the very traditions of Malaysian batik with The Fanous, the decorative lanterns that have since become synonymous as a symbol for Ramadan and Aidilfitri. These lanterns are also significant during these uncertain times as a beacon of hope, and as a light that will keep shining despite the circumstances.

Apart from its consumables, the local team has also designed a one-of-a-kind Aidilfitri 2020 Starbucks Card. The card’s main feature is its Malaysian Batik pattern with an intricate floral design, and pigments of various shades of green that have been coloured in by hand with precision. The card this year is also unique as it is made from paper, which makes them a more sustainable option. With a minimum activation of RM50, this card is perfect to share with a loved one.

Since the government’s announcement of the MCO on 16 March, Starbucks has stepped up many of its sanitation measures and hygiene protocols. Starbucks Malaysia also momentarily paused the use of all its café seating and personal cup services while drive-thru lanes and delivery services continue to operate for customers’ enjoyment.
